If you've been to a local hip hop gig in Sydney lately you would have more than likely come across one of the biggest up coming acts out of the Inner West, Jackie Onassis. Anyone who has seen this duo play live would agree that their beats, lyrics, stage presence and overall performance is amazing and one deserving of a packed out venue filled with fans bouncing along to their tunes. And in due time this will be the case. Today they released their first single, Said and Done from their debut album, January due out early 2013 which promises to join the ranks of other classic Inner West debuts, including The Grey Space and Towards The Light. But for now check out their first single Said and Done.
So legendary emcee Atmosphere and Evidence rocked Adelaide last night and set to do the same in Bris Vagas tonight. So those who have already been or heading down to a show soon will know that this is going to be a big one! More importantly though for all you Sin City hip hop heads out there the Kings of the Inner West, Horrorshow have been announced as support for Atmosphere's Sydney gig at the Hi Fi. So Sydney go grab ya tickets and get down to the Hi Fi.
After the release of their number 1 Platinum album, Drinking from the Sun the Hilltop Hoods are heading out on the road for their only headline tour for 2012 and there bringing a few friends along for the ride.
Holding down the main support for the tour is Solo on the Mic and Adit on the fader from Sydney's Horrorshow crew. With Horrorshow one of the country's most promising Hip Hop acts with an ARIA nomination, multiple sold out national tours, festivals and international spots under their belt all before they hit the age of 23. Not to mention that all of this has been achieved without the help of a hit single. Horrorshow have built a huge support base as well as gaining critical acclaim for their sharp lyricism and hard hitting production.
Along for the ride is none other that none other than the fat controller from the GE Crew, that is Briggs. Hailing from country Victoria he joins this high calibre line up after dropping his debut album, The Blacklist. BRIGGS has been a staple on the local Hip Hop touring circuit. While supporting countless local and international artists BRIGGS has been hard at work on his highly anticipated sophomore album, which is scheduled for release later this year.
It wouldn't be a Hilltop Hoods gig without going all out and when we caught up with Pressure he had this to say.
I remember seeing you guys at the Horden in Sydney when you toured State of the Art on the Still Standing Tour and you came out with the Hilla-Toppa jackets on in the encore, which just blew us all away and I remember going to my mates going what the fuck is going on here. Can we expect anything as big or as mind-blowing on the national tour later this year?
Hahaha Yes defiantly, of course we have always gotta do something new and crazy, something no one else is doing. Thats always been our thing, we always try and do something different. If its something as cheesy as coming out in some jackets that light up then you know. Something that people can take away and have a laugh about or say that was funny or clever or dope you know. We will always try and work something into it. And thats the beauty of doing your own shows in compared to festivals, you get longer on stage you get to crazy things like that and have control of the whole show. Very much looking forward to coming back touring the new album later this year and doing some crazy shit with it.

Its been a while since we last herd from Sydney duo Horrorshow, but if you were lucky enough to catch their new song last week on Joyrides radio show on FBI or on Tripple J last night then you would know that its worth the wait! The boys have been busy and are expected to drop an album sometime next year with a few different things in-between then and now.
A few months back Horrorshow supported Bliss n Eso as they hit the road for their Running On Air Tour. The tour took Aus hip hop right across the country and to the say the turnout was average with a few packed out gigs here and their that packed out is an understatement! The majority of the shows on tour were sold out including the Queensland gig which saw the largest crowd at an Australian Hip Hop gig with an audience in excess of 8000 people. It was said that it was the biggest thing to roll through Mt Gambir since ACDC played their back in the 1980's. Horrorshow took the opportunity to take some time out and talk to some kids at Music Indstury College about getting their stuff out and his personal experiences as an artist. The Sydney gig was defiantly a tour highlight for both Horrorshow and Bliss n Eso, both Sydney Boys. The show sold out and they put on a second gig the Saturday night as well. I guess you get the vibe that this tour was one of the biggest things to happen for Horrorshow and set the bar just that little bit higher for next time. Check out the full interview below.
As many of you would know each year Tripple J put on Aus Music Month. Last year they did a few special gigs featuring Horrorshow, The Bag Raiders and others. Horrorshow covered a song from the Hilltop Hoods, 1979. Before Solo preformed the song along side Adiddy and Jane Tyrell he got a little intermit explaining his connection to the song and why it was so important to him.
"This is the first song that got me into hip hop in the first place when i was like 13. See I used to watch video hits and shit and just see all the stuff on the TV, all the gangsters, the booty shaking hoes, and the drugs and violence and I never really understood hip hop, and then my brother played me this song, and you know the rest goes without saying"
For myself it wasn't 1979 that got me into hip hop but I was very much in the same situation as Solo until my brother played me Noseblees Section also by the hoods which led to other songs including 1979 and ever since I've been a Aus Hip Hop addict.
What was the first Aus Hip Hop song you herd, Where were you, Where did you play it?
Each month Bottom Of The Atlas will feature an artist or group starting this month. This month we are going to get the ball rolling with Sydney based artist, Kelton Muir (Stories For Nothing). I managed to catch up with Kelton for a brief chat on his institutions, works and aspirations.
Group Name: Stories For Nothing
Members: Kelton Muir
Releases to date: First Book of Rhymes
Idol: Nick Briant-Smith aka Solo from Horrorshow
BOTA: When did you officially decide to release works under the title “Stories For Nothing”?
Stories For Nothing: There wasn’t a precise date as such when it started, I guess that it was sometime last year during year 12, it just happened. That shit was all a blur really.
BOTA: Your first release, First Book of Rhymes. What inspired these tracks.
Stories For Nothing: First Book of Rhymes is literally that, my first book of rhymes combined into a short album. The inspiration for this collection of songs came from my very early introduction into aussie hip hop combined with my introduction into kidulthood. I was finding my feet in both, and that is strongly represented in the music.
BOTA: Who and or what would you say is your biggest inspiration for you when creating your music?
Stories For Nothing: The biggest inspirations for music would have to be fellow Sydney artists, Horrorshow. I also draw inspiration from Tupac and various other artist.
BOTA: What do you wish to achieve through your music?
Stories For Nothing: My ultimate life time goal would be to make an impact on peoples life. I want my music to inspire people and spread infectious emotions through the audience. If I can achieve that, even if only with a small group of people, I will be a happy man.
BOTA: What best describes your music?
Stories For Nothing: My music is an exhibition of my emotions and the thoughts, feelings and actions of those around me through musical expressionism, poetry and witty lyricism.
BOTA: Why did you start to make music?
Stories For Nothing: I actually wrote a rhyme about that today... “for most of my life-time, hip-hop has been my life-line, so late one sour night-time i picked up a pen to write rhymes”. I guess I just felt the need to express myself and music was simply my outlet. Plus, hip-hop has been so influential to me and my life, I feel like I should give something myself to the genre.
BOTA: Are there any future works and performances planed/in progress?
Stories For Noting: I just finished a string of live performances supporting the likes of Phatchance, Coptic Soldier and the Electric Elements Crew as well as doing a few small shows of just my own work (well, my work and the work of my amazing acoustic band). I have a few shows on the radar including a few local festival slots and the "Hologram" shows, so my schedule is continually busy. My "Second Book Of Rhymes" is going to drop soon, it’s in the mixing process at the moment. It should be considerably stronger than my First Book Of Rhymes and is going to be something that I will be very proud of when I release it. Busy times ahead – stay tuned.
